Safe and sustainable by design

The European Commission, through the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability (CSS), sets out a vision to move towards a future in which “chemicals are produced/used in ways that maximise their benefits to society while avoiding harm to the planet and people, and the production and use of safe and sustainable chemicals in Europe becomes a global reference”. This initiative seeks to foster a transition towards chemicals and materials that are safer for people and the environment and more sustainable from the early stages of product development to the end of life.

At GAIKER, we work on innovative solutions to fulfil this objective. We develop and use New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) based on in vitro methods to assess the potential hazard of chemicals and materials to human health and the environment. We apply Integrated Testing and Assessment Approaches (IATA) to assess the risks of chemicals and materials.
